It’s useful to test children at pre-school age, and certainly no later than starting primary school. As well as checking the eyes, our opticians also evaluate the muscles and associated structures to ensure they are healthy too, so various medical concerns can be flagged up at a very early age.

We know that the test room can indeed feel a little intimidating to a young child: so we use well-educated techniques, in making the environment as welcoming and fun as possible.
You will, of course, be able to stay with your child throughout the whole test, so you can see everything that happens.

Even though some of the equipment used in your child’s eye test is different, it doesn’t mean that your child’s eye test is any less accurate than an adult’s. In fact, great care is taken to ensure that it isn’t. As well as checking the eyes, our opticians also evaluate the muscles and associated structures to ensure they are healthy too, to identify a plethora of other medical concerns.

How much does a children’s eye test cost?It’s absolutely free, thanks to our wonderful NHS, assuming the child in question is under the age of 16. It’s also free for students under the age of 19 as long as they are in full time education.

At What Age Should My Child Get An Eye Test?It's a bit of a misconception that children need to be able to read letters to have an eye examination. This is far from true. Even the tiniest of precious cargo can have an eye-test and more than often, imperatively too. In identifying even the most fractional of faults, early intervention can help prevent any associated developmental delays.
